8. 꿀떡 (Kkul-tteok) (Honey-Filled Rice Cake)

꿀떡은 작고 동그란 떡 안에 달콤한 꿀물(또는 설탕물)이 들어 있는 떡으로, 씹으면 안에서 꿀이 톡 터지는 재미가 있습니다.

일반적으로 찹쌀가루로 만든 반죽에 속을 넣고 쪄서 만듭니다. 색깔은 흰색, 분홍색, 연두색 등 다양하게 만들 수 있으며, 알록달록 귀엽고 한 입 크기로 먹기 좋아 아이들 간식으로 인기가 많습니다.

특별한 날뿐 아니라 간단한 간식용 떡으로도 많이 사용되고 있으며, 냉동 보관도 가능해 편의점이나 마트에서도 쉽게 구할 수 있는 친숙한 떡입니다.

Kkul-tteok literally means “honey rice cake.” It is a small, round rice cake filled with sweet syrup or honey. When you bite into it, the sweet filling gently bursts in your mouth.

Often made in pastel colors and soft textures, kkul-tteok is a fun and delightful snack for both kids and adults. It’s widely available in stores and often included in gift boxes and party food.

 

Ingredients (2 servings):

  • 1 cup glutinous rice flour
  • ½ cup water
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar syrup or honey
  • Starch for dusting

Steps:

  1. Mix rice flour and water into a smooth dough.
  2. Rest the dough for 10 minutes under cover.
  3. Divide into 6–8 pieces and flatten each.
  4. Drop ½ tsp syrup or honey in the center.
  5. Fold and seal tightly into round shapes.
  6. Place in steamer lined with paper.
  7. Steam for 10–12 minutes.
  8. Cool slightly before handling.
  9. Roll in starch to keep from sticking.
  10. Serve while warm.
