📖 Heungbu and Nolbu

(흥부와 놀부)

옛날 옛적에 흥부와 놀부라는 형제가 살고 있었습니다.

 Once upon a time, there lived two brothers named Heungbu and Nolbu.

형 놀부는 아주 욕심이 많고 심술궂은 성격을 가지고 있었습니다.

 The elder brother, Nolbu, was very greedy and mean-spirited.

동생 흥부는 가난했지만, 마음씨가 착하고 성실한 사람이었습니다.

 The younger brother, Heungbu, was poor but kind-hearted and diligent.

놀부는 큰 집에서 부유하게 살았지만, 흥부는 작은 오두막에서 힘겹게 살았습니다.

 Nolbu lived richly in a large house, but Heungbu struggled in a small hut.

어느 날 흥부가 집에서 쉬고 있는데, 처마에서 새끼 제비 한 마리가 떨어져 다리를 다쳤습니다.

 One day, while Heungbu was resting at home, a young swallow fell from the roof and injured its leg.

흥부는 불쌍한 제비를 정성껏 치료해 주었습니다.
[Heung-bu-neun] [bul-ssang-han] [je-bi-reul] [jeong-seong-kkeot] [chi-ryo-ha-yeo] [ju-eot-seum-ni-da].
 Heungbu carefully treated the poor swallow's injured leg.

제비는 흥부의 보살핌 덕분에 곧 건강을 되찾았습니다.
[Je-bi-neun] [Heung-bu-ui] [bo-sal-phim] [deok-bu-ne] [got] [geon-gang-eul] [doe-cha-jeot-seum-ni-da].
 Thanks to Heungbu's care, the swallow soon recovered its health.

이듬해 봄이 되자, 흥부가 돌봐줬던 제비가 다시 돌아왔습니다.

 The following spring, the swallow that Heungbu had cared for returned.

제비는 감사의 표시로 흥부에게 박씨 하나를 물어다 주었습니다.

 The swallow gave Heungbu a gourd seed as a token of its gratitude.

흥부는 제비가 준 박씨를 집 앞마당에 심었습니다.

 Heungbu planted the gourd seed in his front yard.

그 박씨는 신기하게도 순식간에 자라서 아주 큰 박이 열렸습니다.

 The gourd seed magically grew very quickly into a huge gourd.

흥부가 박을 갈라보니, 박 안에서는 금은보화가 쏟아져 나왔습니다.
[Heung-bu-ga] [bag-eul] [gal-la-bo-ni], [bak] [a-ne-seon-eun] [geum-eun-bo-hwa-ga] [sso-da-jyeo] [na-wa-sseum-ni-da].
 When Heungbu opened the gourd, precious treasures of gold and silver poured out.

그 덕분에 흥부는 부자가 되어 가족과 함께 행복하게 살게 되었습니다.

 Thanks to this, Heungbu became wealthy and lived happily with his family.

이 소식을 들은 놀부는 크게 질투가 났습니다.

 Hearing this news, Nolbu became extremely jealous.

놀부는 일부러 제비 다리를 부러뜨린 뒤, 치료해 주고 돌려보냈습니다.

 Nolbu deliberately broke a swallow’s leg, treated it, and then sent it away.

이듬해 봄, 놀부가 다리를 고쳐준 제비 역시 박씨를 가져다주었습니다.

 The following spring, the swallow Nolbu had treated also brought him a gourd seed.

놀부는 얼른 박씨를 심었고, 역시 박이 크게 자랐습니다.

 Nolbu quickly planted the gourd seed, and it also grew very large.

놀부가 기대하며 박을 갈라보니, 이번에는 금은보화 대신 괴물과 벌레들이 나왔습니다.

 When Nolbu eagerly opened the gourd, instead of treasures, monsters and insects emerged.

괴물과 벌레들이 놀부의 재산을 모두 망가뜨려 버렸습니다.
[Goe-mul-gwa] [beol-le-du-ri] [Nol-bu-ui] [jae-san-eul] [mo-du] [mang-ga-tteu-ryeo] [beo-ryeot-seum-ni-da].
 The monsters and insects destroyed all of Nolbu’s wealth.

놀부는 결국 모든 재산을 잃고 말았습니다.
[Nol-bu-neun] [gyeol-guk] [mo-deun] [jae-san-eul] [il-ko] [ma-rat-seum-ni-da].
 Nolbu eventually lost all of his possessions.

가난해진 놀부는 자신의 잘못을 깊이 뉘우치고 흥부에게 용서를 구했습니다.

 The impoverished Nolbu deeply regretted his actions and asked Heungbu for forgiveness.

마음씨 착한 흥부는 형을 용서했고, 형제는 화해하여 다시 행복하게 살았습니다.

 The kind-hearted Heungbu forgave his brother, and the two brothers reconciled and lived happily again.
